Community Sustainability Projects at The City of Calgary

A key Community Sustainability Project, the Community Footprint Program (CFP), was launched by The City of Calgary this spring with support from Alderman and Community Association presidents, and in partnership with ConocoPhillips Canada. This innovative and collaborative approach will help build capacity and provide resources to community groups ready to take positive environmental action. Recently, the CFP hosted their first workshop. Fifty representatives from 40 communities participated to bring a host of community projects to life, all related to energy reduction, community gardens and alternative transportation. As a result, the Footprint Action Network (FAN) was born.

If you have an action project you would like the Community Footprint Program to consider, please visit the Footprint website. If you would like to learn more about FAN and join in the conversation your community is having on environmental action projects, visit the blog hosted by the Federation of Calgary Communities (Go to “FAN blog”).

And next month, look for the launch of Calgary’s own Footprint Calculator. Designed in partnership with Global Footprint Network, and with generous support from ConocoPhillips Canada Inc., this is the first calculator designed to determine your Footprint based on Calgary’s unique consumption patterns and data.
